Follow the Future / Tim Berresheim, Anita Augustin and Tobias Raschbacher
Permanent AR trail on the grounds of the Nachtigall colliery
Will we soon be growing houses from mushrooms? Will we make our clothes from bacteria in the future? Why do scientists dream of power plants made from algae? Can bricks save the climate? It's all about the future of energy production, extraordinary materials from the laboratory, sustainable urban planning and innovations in construction. The search for answers takes visitors through a virtually enhanced game world that combines analogue locations with digital elements and connects history with the future. The AR trail encourages visitors to explore the museum grounds with a new perspective and actively reflect on visions of future living and working environments.
Embedded in a fictional audio piece by dramaturge Anita Augustin and supported by virtual 3D graphics by designer Tobias Raschbacher, visitors roam the grounds in ‘Playspaces,’ collect virtual objects or solve tasks, and experience the industrial museums in a new audio-visual way. Based on these thematic worlds, Aachen-based artist Tim Berresheim presents impressive augmented reality sculptures that can be freely experienced with a mobile device in a digital exhibition space. They take an artistic look at the content and open up new spaces for association.
Tim Berresheim
Since 2002, artist Tim Berresheim has been working on digital image genesis with the aid of computers. He realises his images as chromogenic, screen or pigment prints, sculptures, but also in digital form as augmented reality sculptures and videos.
His practice can be described as a form of contemporary artistic archaeology. In both figurative and abstract-looking works, he appropriates objects, transforms them and examines them for future potential. In doing so, he always touches on pop and subcultural themes. Tim Berresheim lives and works in Aachen, where he runs his production company, Studios New Amerika, as well as the exhibition space Auge & Welt.
Anita Augustin
Austrian dramaturge and author Anita Augustin studied theatre studies, philosophy and German philology at the University of Vienna. She has been working as a dramaturge for 25 years in the independent scene, at municipal and state theatres and at festivals (including Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspiel Hannover, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen and Salzburger Festspiele). At the Volkstheater Wien, she collaborated with Causa Creations to create the augmented reality game ‘Vienna – All Tomorrows’. As an author, she writes plays, libretti and live radio plays for the stage. Her novels ‘Der Zwerg reinigt den Kittel’ and ‘Alles Amok’ have been published by Ullstein Verlag. Anita Augustin lives and works in Berlin, where she lectures at the Free University of Berlin.
Tobias Raschbacher
Tobias Raschbacher is an Austrian designer specialising in graphic design, 3D animation and typography. He studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the Berlin University of the Arts and has collaborated with design studios such as Cin Cin, Studio Es and 101. As a young talent, Tobias Raschbacher has been featured many times in design publications and online. In his work, he combines infographics with typographic elements and operates at the interface between design and digital art. He deals with topics such as climate change, power relations and communication. Tobias Raschbacher lives and works in Vienna.
AR-Parcours
The trail starts with part one at the office building of the Eimerweise colliery and continues with part two in the brickworks exhibition next to the eastern ring kiln. The sculpture ‘Mutt (Early Bird)’ by Tim Berresheim is located on the large square south of the western ring kiln. Tablets can be borrowed at the ticket office. The trail is free of charge.
The story-based augmented reality trail invites you on an interactive discovery tour of three other industrial museums: the Lage brickworks, the St. Antony ironworks in Oberhausen and the Müller cloth factory in Euskirchen.
